Let's reflect

The year 2019 is coming to an end and what is a better way to conclude a year then a reflection. I prefere to put pen to paper but I would say choose something that fits you. So make sure to get your pen and paper (or whatever medium you like) out, get a cup of tea or coffee and curl up on the couch with a blanket.

For me 2019 was an interesting year for sure. Starting a new job, beginning to teach meditationclasses, starting up Bridge of Life studio, enrolling in an education to become a clinical aromatherapist and a 200 hour hatha yoga teacher training.

So a year full of new beginnings. It feels like with the start of 2019 I also begun a new chapter in my life. A next step on my bridge of life. Full of new adventures and mostly full of new things to make my own.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

Soooo what are questions you can ask yourself to close of the year and begin 2020 in a mindful way.

First of all: Did you have any newyears resolutions for 2019?

If so, get them out. What did you achieve? What was useful? What did you start but never finish? And how so? Don't just reflect on what you didn't reach but especially on what went well. What did those resolutions have in common? What did they have that made them succesful for you?

What are you going to take with you in the new year and what are you going to leave behind in 2019?

What were things that helped you in 2019, what are things you would like to take with you into 2020? And what are things you would rather leave behind in 2019, what did not serve you well or worked against you?

What are/were you grateful for in 2019?

Gratitude is so important, not just towards others but towards yourself too. So take the time to write down a few things you were grateful for in the past year. Besides, gratitude will help you to focus on the positive instead of the negative. And let's be honest, everyone can use some more positivity right? It will help you to feel happier after all.

What do you want to look back at and feel proud about at the end of 2020?

Why? And what are the steps you need to take to cross that bridge, to get there? I like to sketch out a situation, write it down like a short story and maybe add some pictures to it. It is fun to look back at and see what came into reality and in what way. It will surprise you how much actually will come true, even though it may not be in the same way you pictured it.

New resolutions?

To be honest, the idea is nice but if you don't break them down into doable pieces and concrete goals with a clear why, chances are you won't be keeping up with them. Besides, I tend to feel a little guilty towards myself when I am not able to keep up with one of my resolutions or it makes me feel pressured. And that is not something I need right now. So in short, not for me this year but if it's something you like to do, make them concrete and doable.

GIVE YOURSELF TIME

If you want to change things going into 2020, try not to do everything at once. When you want to do too much at once it will be more likely that you won't be able to keep up with it and give up. Give yourself the time to change little by little. Make something into a habit first before adding in something new. This way you will feel like you are only changing one thing while in a year time, you are making enormous changes.

ENJOY THE MOMENT

I know this post in mostly about the future but don't forget to enjoy this moment. In the end you only have right now. You can't change the past and even with your eyes on the future, all of your actions are right now and in this moment. So sit down for a moment and enjoy where you are right now. In this moment.

That was it for today. Goodluck with the next steps on your bridge. I wish you all the happiness and an amazing day.
